As overall employment declined at the beginning of this year, so did the number of manufacturing jobs Pittsburgh has to offer.
Although the city’s January unemployment rate has not yet been released, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained at 8.8 percent that month, keeping it below the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent. Pittsburgh had unemployment rate of 7.8 percent during December 2009.
The city had a total non-farm employment of 1,092,200 workers during January, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,120,000 workers during December and a 1.8 percent decrease from last year.

The new headquarters of an international company will help create Atlanta tech jobs and other positions.
The Georgia Department of Economic Development recently announced that Sepmag Technologies plans to locate its North American headquarters in Atlanta, a move that will invest $150,000 into the local economy and create specialized biotech engineering jobs and sales jobs.
“Georgia’s stock as a true competitor in the biotech sector is enhanced when we’re able to attract leading international companies like Sepmag Technologies to do business in our state,” GDED Commissioner Ken Stewart said. “By choosing Georgia, Sepmag can tap into the state’s competitive resources for this industry, including world-class research institutions, intellectual capital and a pipeline of the brightest talent.”

Hospitals are a great place to work, and if you’re looking for San Antonio medical jobs, there are plenty of hospitals to choose from.
San Antonio’s education and health services industry employed 121,800 workers during December 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 122,400 workers during November and a .5 percent decrease from December 2008.
Workers at area hospitals can expect to be paid relatively well. According to Salary.com, the average wage for a staff registered nurse in San Antonio is between $53,632 per year and $64,838 year, while the average wage for a family practice physician is between $134,303 per year and $174,948 per year.

Federal stimulus funding has supported hundreds of projects and created thousands of Oregon construction jobs.
According to a report from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the State of Oregon has used more than $107 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act during the past year on construction projects to fix roads and bridges.
A separate report from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee found that funding supported 288 projects, which in turn created about 6,359 jobs throughout Oregon. This is welcome news, as the state had an unemployment rate of 11 percent during December 2009.

Several workers will soon lose their Los Angeles government jobs.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently announced that the City of Los Angeles will eliminate 1,000 jobs in order to cope with an ongoing budget crisis. The city is currently facing a budget shortfall of $212 million this year and $484 million during the fiscal year beginning July 1. The layoffs are expected to save up to $50 million this fiscal year.
“We’re living beyond our means, we have difficult choices to make, we must protect our economic future,” Villaraigosa said. “Unfortunately, instead of making progress, we are headed in the wrong direction. That ends today.”

The state’s exports are helping to sustain and create many Texas jobs.
Gov. Rick Perry recently announced that Texas was the number one exporting state in the nation for the eighth year in a row during 2009. Texas’ strong economic environment - which is created by low taxes, a reasonable and predictable regulatory climate, and a skilled and educated workforce - were credited for the state’s achievement.
“Texas leads the nation in so many positive categories, from Fortune 500 companies to job creation, and we owe it to our citizens to continue our economic success by adhering to our proven fiscal disciplines,” Perry said during the North Houston Economic Outlook Annual Symposium.

Those considering Arizona government jobs can look forward to serving in a challenging and changing political arena.
Phoenix serves as the state capital and home of the state legislative branch. That branch is made up of the state House of Representatives, which has 60 members, and the state Senate, which has 30 members. Arizona is split into 30 legislative districts, each of which elects one senator and two representatives.
According to Wikipedia, all legislators are elected to two-year terms and are limited to serving four consecutive terms, although there are no limits on the total number of terms a legislator can serve. Republicans currently hold the majority of seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

The Orlando-Kissimmee area’s education and health services industry employed 120,000 workers during December 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the same as during November and a .2 percent increase from December 2008.
Educators in the area can expect to be paid relatively well. According to Salary.com, the average pay for a public school teacher in Orlando is between $41,493 per year and $ 55,114 per year.

Despite a small decrease in the unemployment rate, not even San Diego teaching jobs were added on a yearly basis last December.
During December 2009, the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos area’s unemployment rate decreased from 10.3 percent to 10.1 percent, following a decrease from 10.7 percent during November. Despite that decrease, the area’s unemployment rate is still slightly higher than the national rate of 10 percent.
The San Diego area had a total non-farm employment of 1,248,400 workers during December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,250,000 workers during November and a 3.3 percent decrease from December 2008.
