Job Candidates Guide to Background Checks

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

In today’s hiring process, it is standard business practice to initiate an employment background check prior to extending a job offer. The goal of the employer is to minimize risks and assess your qualifications, character, and dependability.

Your track record for paying bills on time and maintaining a reasonable credit rating give clues about your character and integrity. Validating information provided on your resume indicates honesty and sincerity.

WHY DO EMPLOYERS CONDUCT BACKGROUND CHECKS?
Employers are attempting to verify all information you have provided and identify any misleading or false information. Their primary objective is to ensure that you have the skills and behaviors required to perform at an optimal level. By thoroughly conducting a background check, they also minimize their risks that you present a detriment to the organization in any way.

Finding SEM Jobs

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

As the internet moves from a luxury to a necessity, the push to get products to this new haven for consumers is growing rapidly. Search engine marketing has become a field that is extremely profitable, due to the sheer number of companies hoping to reach the technologically addicted generation and the small job pool from which to recruit from. For those who are already well trained for a search engine marketing job, locating a position is done primarily through the major tool of the trade: the internet.

Many individuals in this profession prefer to use industry specific job search engines as opposed to more well known sites such as Monster.com. The jobs listed on these specialized sites are more likely to come from companies that have experience with search engine marketing and therefore know what to expect from professionals.

Internet Recruiting Benefits

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Today, internet recruiting and human resources automated systems are integral to the staffing strategy of every company, in virtually every economic sector. Increasingly, job seekers are turning towards job portals, company websites, and even online news paper classifieds for job openings or job searches. Conversely, recruiting companies and consultants’ world over are depending upon the online medium for advertising their requirements, venue of interview/recruitment etc alongside the approximate pay packet. In short, it has become sort of inconceivable for the people on both sides of this equation.

The biggest advantage with recruiting online is its pace and reach. From a prospective job seeker’s perspective, finding the right job opportunities in such job sites and applying for it is just a matter of few mouse clicks or few seconds. Gone are the days of sending resumes by post, and waiting for an interview call, again through post. With internet recruiting, such long drawn delays are totally eliminated. If some company shortlists a particular resume, the person concerned will get the call up through email or telephone. In other words, the candidate in context could know in less time if his/her resume stands a chance or not. Further, with internet recruiting websites, one could easily search and apply for many jobs online at a time, without having to leave from a single browser window.

From a recruiter’ perspective, internet recruiting provides the penetration that most conventional methods traditionally lacked. It not only lets the job seekers know about the latest openings, and different openings, but also let them understand in detail the profile the company is looking for. By doing so, it enables the company to receive only relevant applications, thereby lot of time in sorting the resumes. When coupled with automated human resources system, the process becomes still faster and robust, as everything from sourcing, screening, grading, and recruiting could now be done from a centralized computer terminal with minimal amount of paper and administrative work.

In other words, with internet recruiting and human resources integration, recruiting managers could devote more focus and energy on the mission critical aspects of HR management than having to waste time over mundane paper works and usual administrative tasks. In fact, the role of human resources systems extends beyond recruiting and this includes other corporate activities such as tracking employee performances, making appraisals, managing salary and wage rates, tracking leave entitlements, financial reporting, and facilitating employee management in general as well. In short, such a system not only cuts costs but also save time in a big way.

To sum it up, internet recruiting and human resources system streamlines the recruitment process and post recruitment administration like never before. It is fast, robust, easily manageable, saves time and cost, and above all let the managers focus on their job better.

Landing the Perfect Student Internship

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Possessing a college degree is not enough to guarantee that one will get a job after graduation. Businesses want employees who have some sort of marketable skills and work experience and therefore often pass on recent graduates. Having a 4.0 GPA often means nothing to an employer unless it comes with resume that mentions something other than the clubs one participated in. To avoid finding one’s self in this sort of catch twenty-two situation, one should spend at least one semester as an intern.

Internships provide students with necessary work experience and can often teach one more about life than any semester of Calculus ever will. All the education in the world means nothing if one doesn’t know how to apply what they have learned in the classroom. An internship can help one learn how to apply all the facts and figures they’ve studied endlessly towards something practical.

Having an internship under one’s belt, can be the difference between getting a job and continuing to live in a friend’s basement in more than one way. Students who make time for an internship between studying and switching their major for the umpteenth time gain more than just padding to their resumes. True, employers will be delighted to see the list of skills one acquired during a semester well spent, but internships also provide the opportunity to network.
