City of Tucson Jobs Result From Bioscience Park

The opening of a new bioscience park will result in the creation of several City of Tucson jobs

.

The University of Arizona

recently started construction on the Bioscience Park, a development expected to create high-paying jobs, attract capital investment for emerging industries and sustain long-term economic growth throughout Tucson and Arizona .

The park will include laboratory and office space, a science and technical high school affiliated with Tucson Unified School District

, a hotel, a conference center and university housing. About 25 percent of the park will remain open space with courtyards and a greenbelt to encourage community interaction.

Austin Teaching Jobs Added at ACC

One local college is expanding and creating several Austin teaching jobs

.

The Austin Community College District

recently announced that it will create an additional 100 full-time staff positions in order to keep up with increasing enrollment. It is expected there will be openings in all fields , with positions ranging from cashiers to campus police to media technology specialists.

“This new hiring reflects ACC’s commitment to expanding our faculty and staff base as enrollment increases,” Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, president and CEO of the Austin Community College District, told the Austin Business Journal

. “We want to ensure all students have access to the same high-quality education and support services as ACC grows.”

Tampa Healthcare Jobs Created by Clinic Funding

A new round of funding for two local health clinics will help create Tampa healthcare jobs

and construction jobs.

The two clinics were recently granted a total of $6.6 million in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

. Of the $787 billion stimulus bill passed earlier this year, about $600 million will go to community health centers, in part as an effort to increase the use of electronic medical records.

Suncoast Community Health Centers

will receive $3.7 million to expand services and Tampa Family Health Centers will receive $2.9 million to help build an 18,000-square-foot clinic next to University Community Hospital . That $4 million project is expected to create at least 15 construction positions and 22 healthcare-related jobs.

Portland Construction Jobs Created by New Clinic

The creation of a new mental health clinic will help create Portland construction jobs

.

Central City Concern

, a Portland -based community health clinic, recently announced that it will build a $12.5 million mental health clinic in the downtown area. The project, which is expected to be complete within two years, will help to create 111 construction jobs.

The Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton area could certainly use the additional construction positions. During October, the area’s construction industry employed 51,000 workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics

. This is down from 52,000 workers during September and a 16.7 percent decrease from last year.
