Colorado Government Jobs Focus on Maintaining Budget

Whether or not Colorado government jobs will be affected by the upcoming budget remains to be seen, but state officials remain somewhat optimistic about this moth’s revenue forecasts.

“The revenue forecast for the current budget is hopeful and promising,” Gov. Bill Ritter said. “It’s the best forecast we’ve seen in almost two years, and it indicates that our strategies are working and the economy is slowly beginning to stabilize. However, one improved forecast does not stability make.

Ritter warns that the economy still remains volatile and that officials need to continue being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and continue making the fair, balanced and responsible decisions they have been making since the recession began.

Criminal Background Check Policies Changed at LCCPS

A group of fatalities has caused one local child protective agency to change its criminal background check (Click here) policies.

A recent report from the Colorado Department of Human Services details the changes that Larimer County Child Protective Services has made to its background check policies. Recent incidents have led the agency to focus more on conducting background checks on parents and other caregivers.

The Munoz report details the ways in which the death of a 20-day-old Fort Collins child prompted LCCPS to conduct more background checks. For instance, the agency instituted a change during the fall of 2008 that allows more than a single manager to complete all the background checks.

Outplacement Assistance Benefits Employees and Employers

More companies are now offering outplacement assistance (Click here) to displaced employees, which can equally benefit both parties.

Amidst the current economy more employers are being forced to layoff some of their workers in order to cut costs. However, employers now have the option of using outplacement services to make this procedure less painful to them and any affected employees.

Outplacement assistance will not only benefit employers, but will teach separated employees how to successfully organize their capabilities into a marketable form and then sell those capabilities to find another job.

RPO Businesses Could Benefit from New Test

Any companies in the Philippine RPO business may benefit from a new standardized test.

The Business Processing Association of the Philippines has created a National Competency Test that should ultimately prevent outsourcing companies from having to sort through thousands of applications. The test is designed for college students and those looking to change their careers and join the outsourcing industry.

The NCT will gauge an applicant’s verbal and numerical learning ability, English proficiency, perceptual speed and accuracy, computer literacy and service orientation. The NCT is expected to be released on April 12.

Electrical engineers are among the most popular Denver engineer jobs (Click here) available.

Electrical engineers are responsible for designing, developing, testing or supervising the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components or systems for commercial, industrial, military or scientific use.

According to the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment, electrical engineers are considered to be an in demand occupation. Five of the related occupations – including engineering managers, aerospace engineers, electronics engineers, mechanical engineers and electricians – also are considered to be in demand.

Manufacturing Jobs Pittsburgh Decline

As overall employment declined at the beginning of this year, so did the number of manufacturing jobs Pittsburgh has to offer.

Although the city’s January unemployment rate has not yet been released, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained at 8.8 percent that month, keeping it below the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent. Pittsburgh had unemployment rate of 7.8 percent during December 2009.

The city had a total non-farm employment of 1,092,200 workers during January, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,120,000 workers during December and a 1.8 percent decrease from last year.
