Miami Unemployment Continues to Climb

More jobs were added last month even as the Miami unemployment

continued to grow.

During August, the Miami

area’s unemployment rate increased from 13.3 percent to 14.4 percent, which is much higher than the national average of 9.6 percent.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

, the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall area had a total non-farm employment of 969,900 workers during August, which is up from 959,900 workers during July and only a .1 percent decrease from last year.

Phoenix Education Jobs Supported by STEM Network

A new network focused on four core areas will support Phoenix education jobs

and help students graduate with the skills they need to succeed.

Gov. Jan Brewer

recently announced that the state will provide $100,000 to Science Foundation Arizona to create a Statewide STEM Action Network. That network will work to form a proactive and integrated approach for education in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Along with support from state, private and philanthropic entities, Science Foundation Arizona will provide the leadership and infrastructure necessary to manage the STEM Action Network. Funding for the network will come from the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Jobs for San Antonio Military Spouses Best in Nation

One company that is headquartered locally and known for providing jobs for San Antonio

has been named the best in the nation for employing military spouses.

magazine recently named USAA number one on its fourth annual list of the top Military Spouse Friendly Employers for the second consecutive year. USAA currently employs about 1,686 military spouses and offers special programs that support the unique circumstances facing spouses of those with military jobs .

Employees also have access to a Work Life Referral counselor to help them find alternative child care options during deployments and an intranet site designed to help spouses deal with financial, legal and benefits-related information and guidance.
