Phoenix Customer Service Jobs with Deluxe Cut

Several Phoenix customer service jobs (Click here

) are slated for elimination as a well-known national company closes its local call center.

Deluxe Corporation

recently announced its plans to close the company’s call center in Phoenix and lay off about 175 employees. The Minneapolis-based company offers personalized blank checks and other products to consumers and businesses.

The company is closing its Phoenix location in an effort to take on more capacity at other offices throughout the country. Employees who are affected by the job cuts will have the chance to receive severance benefits and help finding other jobs

Houston Government Jobs in Danger from State Cuts

A large number of Houston government jobs

could be effected by impending state budget cuts.

A new analysis of the Texas state budget found that cuts in funding could end up costing Harris County, where Houston

is located, about $50 million per year. That’s on top of the service cuts, layoffs, and furloughs the county is considering in order to cut 10 percent from its own $1.3 billion budget.

According to the Houston Chronicle

, the State of Texas is currently facing a budget shortfall of $15 billion to $27 billion during the next two years. The initial draft of the budget does not increase taxes or use the rainy day fund, but includes deep cuts in such vital departments as public education and social services.

San Antonio Teaching Jobs Temporarily Saved

Several San Antonio teaching jobs

have been saved – at least for the time being.

Last week, members of the San Antonio Independent School District Board

failed to vote on a motion that would cut 130 jobs, in effect saving those positions for the time being. The board also said is would not consider outsourcing any positions.

Both of the ideas are among a number of measures the district is considering in an effort to bridge a budget gap

that could reach anywhere between $33 million to $55 million. The shortfall is a result of state cuts to education funding, among other things.

Phoenix AZ Jobs Created by Power-One

A successful renewable energy company is creating more Phoenix AZ jobs

Power-One, Inc.

has opened a new manufacturing plant in Phoenix that will eventually employ about 350 people. This is the company’s first manufacturing facility in North America. Power-One is the second-largest producer of power inverters in the renewable energy industry.

The company chose Phoenix as the location for its new facility because of the area’s strong workforce

; access to intellectual resources at Arizona State University ; and strong support from Gov. Jan Brewer , the Arizona Commerce Authority , the City of Phoenix , and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council .
