Criminal Background Check Policies Changed at LCCPS

A group of fatalities has caused one local child protective agency to change its criminal background check (Click here) policies.

A recent report from the Colorado Department of Human Services details the changes that Larimer County Child Protective Services has made to its background check policies. Recent incidents have led the agency to focus more on conducting background checks on parents and other caregivers.

The Munoz report details the ways in which the death of a 20-day-old Fort Collins child prompted LCCPS to conduct more background checks. For instance, the agency instituted a change during the fall of 2008 that allows more than a single manager to complete all the background checks.

Orlando Teaching Jobs

The Orlando-Kissimmee area’s education and health services industry employed 120,000 workers during December 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the same as during November and a .2 percent increase from December 2008.

Educators in the area can expect to be paid relatively well. According to Salary.com, the average pay for a public school teacher in Orlando is between $41,493 per year and $ 55,114 per year.

City of Tucson Jobs Result From Bioscience Park

The opening of a new bioscience park will result in the creation of several City of Tucson jobs.

The University of Arizona recently started construction on the Bioscience Park, a development expected to create high-paying jobs, attract capital investment for emerging industries and sustain long-term economic growth throughout Tucson and Arizona.

The park will include laboratory and office space, a science and technical high school affiliated with Tucson Unified School District, a hotel, a conference center and university housing. About 25 percent of the park will remain open space with courtyards and a greenbelt to encourage community interaction.

Background Check Info Found through Online Court Records

In the State of Minnesota, a trial that allows people to search through court records – information often contained in background checks – turned out to be successful.

More than 1.2 million searches were conducted during the first year that Minnesota’s district court records were made accessible over the Internet. Minnesota Public Access Remote became available through the new statewide court records database, the Minnesota Court Information System.

According to an article by the St. Paul Legal Ledger Capitol Report, the system took five years to complete and cost about $30 million. The system combines 10 databases that are used around the state and includes case records dating back to the 1970s.

Arkansas Background Check Records Accidentally Lost

Records used for background checks contain a variety of information that could lead the identity theft if they fell into the wrong hands. Because of this, companies that deal with such information have to be very careful with their databases. When something goes wrong many can have serious reasons to be concerned.

The Arkansas Department of Information Systems (DIS) is currently worried about one set of its records. A private company, Information Vaulting Services (IVS) that stores their information off-site recently informed them that one of the computer tapes full of data is missing from their inventory.

Somewhere around 807,000 people who had background checks ran on them in the state are on the tape that has been misplaced. The records span around 12 years on this particular tape.

Background Checks – Who’s Telling the Truth?

Background checks are now the norm to beginning every new job. We have to make ourselves sound better than the competition. People think that if they make themselves sound appealing to an employer, the employer won’t find out that they’re lying.

According to Forbes, at least 40 percent of people lie on their resumes. To combat this, HR people put much more time in the quality of their background checks. As someone looking for a job, I would definitely want to show off my skills and talents more than the other guy. But is it the truth?

If I were an employer, seeing this great person on a piece of paper doesn’t exactly sell me. I need to know they are as upstanding as he or she lets on. According to AMO, A Matter of Fact, “39 percent of all Background Checks had at least one serious flag”.
