Denver Manufacturing Jobs See Smallest Monthly Growth

Although the industry is slowly starting to recover, Denver manufacturing jobs saw the smallest increase in employment last month.

During March, the Denver area’s unemployment rate fell from 9.8 percent to 9.3 percent, accounting for the second monthly decrease in a row. However, the latest decrease still puts the area’s rate above the national average of 8.8 percent.

The Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area employed about 1,184,600 workers during March, which is up from 1,176,000 workers during February and a .9 percent increase from last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

San Diego Manufacturing Jobs Supported by CMTC

One organization’s services continue to support thousands of San Diego manufacturing jobs.

A recent study found that the services provided by California Manufacturing Technology Consulting has a significant impact on jobs. The organization helped to create or retain 2,600 jobs during 2010, with each of those positions supporting an additional four to seven indirect jobs.

CMTC, which serves the area from Fresno to San Diego, provides consulting services to manufacturers that want to expand and become more competitive. By focusing on technical, production, and sales growth, the organization helps companies bring products to customers quicker and adapt innovate practices that create jobs.

Phoenix Manufacturing Jobs with Suntech

One solar-focused company is creating Phoenix manufacturing jobs (Click here).

Suntech Power Holdings recently announced its plans to open the company’s first solar panel production facility in Goodyear, a nearby suburb of Phoenix. Suntech manufactures solar panels for industrial, commercial, residential, and utility uses.

The majority of jobs in the solar industry are in finance, sales, and installation sections. Suntech predicts that it will need anywhere from 15 to 30 people for each megawatt of production capacity the new facility generates.

Manufacturing Jobs Pittsburgh Decline

As overall employment declined at the beginning of this year, so did the number of manufacturing jobs Pittsburgh has to offer.

Although the city’s January unemployment rate has not yet been released, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained at 8.8 percent that month, keeping it below the national unemployment rate of 9.7 percent. Pittsburgh had unemployment rate of 7.8 percent during December 2009.

The city had a total non-farm employment of 1,092,200 workers during January, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,120,000 workers during December and a 1.8 percent decrease from last year.
