Florida Jobs Strengthened by New Fishing Resource

Florida’s tourism industry – which supports hundreds of thousands of Clearwater jobs (Click here

), jobs Fort Lauderdale , Miami Dade County jobs , and positions throughout the state – is introducing a new resource to attract fishers.

Visit Florida

and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently launched FishingCapital.com , a new website aimed at helping fishing enthusiasts plan their next fishing trip to Florida. The site will be a vital tool for the state’s tourism industry, which supports thousands of local jobs.

In fact, tourism is the largest industry in Florida, which is not surprising given the diversity of the state’s attractions. The fishing, boating, and seafood industries alone employ almost 400,000 residents and have a total economic impact of more than $30 billion.

Miami Nursing Jobs Supported by Local Hospitals

Hospitals create hundreds of thousands of Miami nursing jobs

and other healthcare positions and pump billions of dollars into the local economy every year.

A new study from the University of Florida

found that hospitals throughout the state create 739,078 jobs and have an economic impact of $54 billion each year, accounting for about 7.34 percent of Florida’s gross domestic product.

“This report underscores the economic contribution our hospitals provide to their local communities each and every day,” Bruce Rueben, president of the Florida Hospital Association

, said. “This is especially important at a time when Florida has the fourth-highest unemployment rate in the nation.”

Miami Unemployment Continues to Climb

More jobs were added last month even as the Miami unemployment

continued to grow.

During August, the Miami

area’s unemployment rate increased from 13.3 percent to 14.4 percent, which is much higher than the national average of 9.6 percent.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

, the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall area had a total non-farm employment of 969,900 workers during August, which is up from 959,900 workers during July and only a .1 percent decrease from last year.

Miami Government Jobs Created by Health Department, University Partnership

A partnership between the local health department and a university will help create tens of thousands of Miami government jobs

The Miami-Dade County Health Department

and Florida International University are teaming up to create the state’s first Academic Health Sciences Center. As part of the effort, the health department will consolidate its administrative and program offices, currently housed at eight locations, at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

“Through this partnership, we can cut costs and become a more efficient department,” MDCHD Administrator Lillian Rivera said in a press release.
