The Department of Health & Human Services recently launched the Health Care Innovation Challenge, which will award up to $1 billion to projects that find more creative ways to deliver high-quality medical care and save money.

“We’ve taken incredible steps to reduce health care costs and improve care, but we can’t wait to do more,” HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement. “Both public and private community organizations around the country are finding innovative solutions to improve our health care system and the Health Care Innovation Challenge will help jump start these efforts.”

Nursing Jobs in Arizona Get Relationship Management Support

Arizona Nuring Jobs Report Largest Yearly Growth

Arizona nursing jobs (Click here) have grown the most over the last 12 months, which is good news for anyone considering the nursing jobs arizona has to offer.

During July, Arizona’s unemployment rate jumped from 9.3 percent to 9.4 percent, after climbing from 9.1 percent the previous month. That puts the state’s rate above the national average at the time of 9.1 percent.

Arizona employed a total of 2,394,400 workers during July, which is down from 2,397,100 workers during June, but a .9 percent increase from last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Arizona Nursing Jobs, Others Supported by Pharmaceutical Company

One pharmaceutical company continues to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy, supporting thousands of Arizona nursing jobs and other healthcare-related positions in the process.

A recent study from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Business Administration found that Express Scripts employed 1,700 Arizona residents last year. The company supports 2,665 direct and indirect jobs, including many RN jobs Arizona, and contributes more than $226 million to the local economy.

St. Louis-based Express Scripts operates two facilities in Arizona that provide high-tech home delivery pharmacy services, prescription processing operations, and a patient care contact center. The company serves numerous commercial clients and the U.S. Department of Defense TriCare program from these locations.

Miami Nursing Jobs Supported by Local Hospitals

Hospitals create hundreds of thousands of Miami nursing jobs and other healthcare positions and pump billions of dollars into the local economy every year.

A new study from the University of Florida found that hospitals throughout the state create 739,078 jobs and have an economic impact of $54 billion each year, accounting for about 7.34 percent of Florida’s gross domestic product.

“This report underscores the economic contribution our hospitals provide to their local communities each and every day,” Bruce Rueben, president of the Florida Hospital Association, said. “This is especially important at a time when Florida has the fourth-highest unemployment rate in the nation.”

Las Vegas Nurse Jobs Affected by Hospital Operating Losses

Although the local and national healthcare industry has continued to thrive, the millions of dollars lost by local hospitals could adversely affect Las Vegas nurse jobs and other health-related professions.

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services recently reported that hospitals in the Las Vegas area saw operating losses of $133.1 million during 2009, which is almost twice as much as the operating losses experienced the previous year.

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada accounted for much of the decline, with the hospital reporting an operating loss of $92.2 million. Of the 12 other hospitals in the area, eight lost money during 2009, while only three were able to improve their bottom lines.
