San Diego Medical Jobs Grow the Most Over Year

San Diego medical jobs were among only two industries that added jobs during June when compared to last year.

During June, the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos area’s unemployment rate increased from 10.1 percent to 10.5 percent, following a decrease from 10.5 percent during May. That increase keeps the area’s rate above the national average at the time of 9.5 percent.

The San Diego area had a total non-farm employment of 1,224,500 workers during June, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,225,700 workers during May and a 1 percent decrease from last year.

San Diego Teaching Jobs See Yearly Decline

Despite a small decrease in the unemployment rate, not even San Diego teaching jobs were added on a yearly basis last December.

During December 2009, the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos area’s unemployment rate decreased from 10.3 percent to 10.1 percent, following a decrease from 10.7 percent during November. Despite that decrease, the area’s unemployment rate is still slightly higher than the national rate of 10 percent.

The San Diego area had a total non-farm employment of 1,248,400 workers during December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 1,250,000 workers during November and a 3.3 percent decrease from December 2008.
