According to United State’s Department of Labor statistics, those who have computer jobs in South Carolina are fairing better economically than many of the state’s other workers. The Palmetto State’s high-tech industry workers earn, on average, approximately $19,000 more per year than other private sector workers.

Even though those with computer jobs tend to make more in the state than most other workers, South Carolina is ranked 41st in average high-tech wages. When viewing such statistics one must take in to account the fact that such state’s as South Carolina and Georgia have an overall lower cost of living than many of the so-called technology hubs.

Despite receiving larger pay checks than many others in the area, there are not as many of these professionals in the state as can be found in other parts of the country. Only about 3 out of every 100 South Carolinians currently have computer intensive jobs. Because of this, South Carolina ranks 45th in the nation for employing technologically skilled employees.

For the most part, those in search of South Carolina jobs should run into less competition for positions than they would elsewhere in the country. Other area’s boast a hirer number of individuals trained for these positions, which makes it easier for those in the area doing a job search. According to the Department of Labor statistics, jobs in the computer and mathematical fields are expected to increase by 67 percent by 2010, which means there should be some increase in available South Carolina computer jobs.

At this time the most popular jobs in South Carolina are computer programmers, support specialists and system analysts. One of the least popular computer jobs in the area are the positions held by database administrators. Statistics show that under 900 of the individuals are employment throughout the state in places like Charleston.

Those who have more computer experience, especially those who have knowledge in more than one type of technological positions will have the easiest time finding employment in south Carolina.
